  • Route A: For unregistered products; involves product testing and inspection.
  • Route B: For registered products; periodic inspection with reduced testing.
  • Route C: For licensed products; minimal inspection based on quality management systems.
  • Each route has specific requirements and associated fees, detailed in the country-specific sections.

🌐 Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for Exporters

Exporters from regions such as America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania are required to obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) when exporting regulated goods to various African countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Gabon. This certificate is a mandatory document that verifies the products meet the specific quality, safety, and technical standards set by the importing country.

Why COC is important?

  • Customs Clearance: Required for smooth customs processing.
  • Consumer Safety: Ensures products meet national safety and quality standards.
  • Market Access: Facilitates trade by confirming regulatory compliance.

📦 Understanding FOB (Free On Board) and FOB Value

FOB (Free On Board) is an international commercial term (Incoterm) that specifies the point at which the responsibility and ownership of goods transfer from the seller to the buyer during shipping. Under the FOB agreement, the seller is responsible for all costs and risks up to the point where the goods are loaded onto the shipping vessel at the designated port of departure. Once the goods are on board, the buyer assumes responsibility for all subsequent costs and risks, including transportation, insurance, and import duties.

  • Cost of the goods: The actual price paid for the products.
  • Packaging and handling: Expenses related to preparing the goods for shipment.
  • Inland transportation: Costs to move the goods from the seller’s premises to the port of shipment.
    • Export customs clearance: Fees associated with clearing the goods for export.

The FOB value is crucial for calculating import duties and taxes in the destination country, as it provides a standardized basis for valuation.
